New Phone

OK, it's not really new. I've had it for about a month. So far I like it. I like having Internet access, albeit slow, but 3G isn't everywhere so I don't want to have to pay "everywhere" prices per month. The screen size is great. That makes a big difference. The form factor is just right (Apple does great hardware). I don't feel like I'm talking into a dinner plate and it's not to thick to put in a pocket.
Interface
Apple pretty much sticks to one animation per application rule. Which when used correctly, it's good. For example, if you have a link in your email and you click it, the screen zooms out/falls back and a browser zooms in with you link. This gives you a good visual cue as to "where" you are. However, the animation done on everything can become annoying at times, but for the most part it works.
What's needed
- Word selection. A double tap of a word to select would be great. Which leads to...
- Copy & paste. Unfortunately they used the fingerworks "cut and paste" gesture for zooming instead of "cut and paste" so until a new gesture is created you suffer.
- Open new link in a new page. Tabbed browsing is used by every modern browser. Where's it at in Safari?
- Games. And not web games.
- Other applications. The funny thing about the Windows Mobile devices is that they are "open". You can write real applications or put real applications on it. Mmmmm, irony.
- SilverLight and Flash.
One product recommendation. The flip case from Griffin. I can find it on the web or the ATT site, but I recommend it for a slim case (I don't use the belt clip, no batman fashion, thanks) that won't bulk up the form factor of the phone. Plus, you can use it for wedge to lay on at your desk.
More later.
